Yukon Park Arabians was established in the late 70’s by Barry & Lyn Peel along with Barry’s brother Doug at Taradale (near Tumbarumba).
Our association with arabians go back a lot further than this with Barry’s father Max purchasing the ¾ arabian stallion FAIRVIEW SAN REYM from Peter Hall’s Fairview Stud at Albury in the early 70’s. Keen to have a purebred stallion and with arabians commanding extremely high prices at the time, he convinced Peter to sell him the wonderful grey stallion BARONEK (by Lord Barham). Barry also purchased the grey colt WONGABURRA REDASH (by Rikham) who was later gelded and used as his stockhorse.
In the late 70’s came the purchase of the bay stallion YARRALUMLA KIZIL (by Kizil Kum) and along with Baronek these two stallions became Yukon Park Arabians. We tragically lost both stallions in 1988 in unrelated accidents.
Our friendship with Peter Hall whilst he was based in Albury, enabled us to purchase our foundation mares Kamista (by Kapehr), Fairview Amira el Shakra (by Amir el Shaklan) and Kapertoon (by Kapehr). We also purchased the mare Caliph Stud Monique (by Abyad) after seeing her advertised at a Homebush horse sale. Kamista was shown extensively and later joined to Amir el Shaklan producing Yukon Park Kamira who was sold to Anniversary Arabians. But it was to SK Shakla Khan that produced her best, Yukon Park Bint Kamista who is the dam of Top Ten Stallions Shakla Zulu (dec) and Khouros (imp/exp NZ). We have retained two of her daughters by Fairview Estashah (by Estashan).
Kapertoon only left us one daughter and we have a granddaughter retained. Fairview Amira el Shakra is a beautiful arabian mare and we have retained three of her exceptional daughters within the stud. Monique left as a daughter before being sadly killed in a thunderstorm.
In 1990 the stud moved to our current property at Tarcutta NSW and not having a resident stallion, the mares were semi retired and the stud wound down. It then took us over 9 years to find the right stallion, EASTERN PARK THE SHAMAN joined us in 2000. By The Black from Wyuna Ashra, he has the Royal Domino lines we were looking for. He is an exceptionally quiet and easy care stallion whose progeny have their fathers kind temperament.
In 2006 we were given a bay thoroughbred colt, who due to the loss of an eye as a foal was unable to race. Palace Pirate (by Palace Music) has become the base of our small thoroughbred stud.
The aim of our stud is to breed good riding horses with sound conformation and kind temperaments. There are now a number of Yukon Park horses out competing successfully in endurance, pony club and the show ring and as we are only a very small stud, breeding and offering only a limited number of horses, we are very proud that these horses are continuing what was started nearly 40 years ago.
